Satheesh Kathula receives award at American Telugu convention
The award recognizes Kathula for his work in oncology, medical education, public health, and patient care.

Satheesh K. Kathula, well known haematologist, oncologist, educator, and healthcare leader, was honoured with the excellence in medicine award at the American Telugu Association (ATA) annual convention held in Baltimore, Maryland, on Aug. 1.
In his acceptance speech for the award, Kathula dedicated the honour to healthcare professionals globally. “I humbly accept this recognition on behalf of every physician, nurse, healthcare professional, and caregiver who works tirelessly each day to serve patients with compassion, integrity, and excellence.

This award belongs to all those who have dedicated their lives to healing others,” Kathula said on receiving the award. He expressed his appreciation to ATA President Jayanth Challa, along with Santosh Reddy and Prasad Akula, for the recognition and for the American Telugu Association’s continued commitment to celebrating excellence in medicine, leadership, and community service.
The American Telugu Association convention brought together distinguished professionals, community leaders, entrepreneurs, artists, and physicians from across North America and India to recognize outstanding achievements and strengthen cultural, educational, and professional collaborations.
The award recognizes Kathula for his work in oncology, medical education, public health, and patient care. With over 20 years of clinical experience, he specializes in treating complex cancers, including lung, gastrointestinal, and blood cancers.
A graduate of Siddhartha Medical College in Andhra Pradesh, Kathula completed his residency and haematology/medical oncology fellowship at Wright State University in Ohio, where he serves as clinical professor of medicine.
As president of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) for 2024–2025, Dr Kathula led initiatives focused on medical education, cancer prevention, public health awareness, and community outreach. He also organized the 2024 AAPI global healthcare summit in New Delhi to promote collaboration among healthcare leaders and policymakers.
His career honours include the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s 2018 man of the year award and the US Presidential lifetime achievement award for volunteer service.
