Deepam Patel named associate dean for undergraduate affairs at Purdue
He will oversee undergraduate academic programs, student success initiatives, curriculum innovation, and expand career-connected learning opportunities across Purdue's science campuses.

Purdue University has appointed Indian-origin mathematician Deepam Patel as associate dean for undergraduate affairs in its College of Science.
Patel, a professor of mathematics and director of online programs for the College of Science, will provide strategic leadership for undergraduate academic programs, curriculum innovation, and policies supporting the educational experience of more than 6,000 undergraduate students across the university's West Lafayette and Indianapolis campuses.
In his new role, he will work with academic departments to strengthen student retention and academic success, expand experiential and career-connected learning opportunities, and support clear academic pathways for students at both Purdue locations.

As associate dean, Patel will also partner with departments to advance undergraduate education priorities, support curriculum development and assessment, and identify opportunities to strengthen academic programs and pathways for student success.
“I am honored to serve the College of Science in this new capacity. Our undergraduate students are at the center of everything we do. I look forward to working with faculty, staff and students across the college to strengthen opportunities for learning, discovery and engagement while helping every student achieve their academic and professional goals,” Patel said in a statement.
Lucy Flesch, Frederick L. Hovde Dean of the College of Science, said Patel brings "a student-centered approach, a collaborative leadership style and a deep commitment to academic excellence."
“His experience working across disciplines and educational modalities positions him well to lead our undergraduate efforts as we continue to prepare students to think critically, solve complex problems and make meaningful contributions in a rapidly changing world,” Flesch said,
Throughout his career at Purdue Mathematics, Patel has focused on student success and has led the development and expansion of online and innovative educational programs to broaden access to the university's science education. He also played an early role in delivering Purdue's mathematics curriculum in Indianapolis in fall 2024, contributing to the growth of the university's academic presence in the city.
