Romania, Moldova, North Macedonia seek direct air connectivity with New Delhi
Proposals for the air connectivity were made during the three-nation tour of the President of India Droupadi Murmu to these countries

India held discussions with three eastern European countries, Romania, Moldova and North Macedonia, on having direct air connectivity with the respective national capitals of these three countries and New Delhi.
During the three-nation tour of the President of India Droupadi Murmu to these countries which concluded July 25, officials said proposals from all the three countries have been received to have direct air connectivity between New Delhi and these countries. So far, there are no flights between New Delhi and the national capitals of these countries, Bucharest, Chisinau and Skopje respectively.
Speaking about the discussions, secretary (west) said that all the three countries that the President visited have expressed interest in having direct air connectivity with New Delhi.

"Romania is an important Black Sea state and has emerged as an important geostrategic hub of transportation and energy corridors. Romania is keen to position itself as a gateway for Indian businesses to the wider European region. There are about a 1000 Indian companies engaged in Romania of which 560 are registered in Romania while others are registered elsewhere but are operating in Romania. Having direct air connectivity is therefore of interest for the Indians working here and the tourists who want to travel to India. A lot of tourists have been interested in travelling to India and there is also interest in Indian movies. So, this was a proposal which was received from all the three countries. There are about 20000 Indians in Romania which is why direct air connectivity is on their wish-list," he said.
Significantly, both countries are also discussing a migration and mobility partnership agreement that would facilitate movement of skilled workers.
"We have institutional mechanisms in place for advancing commercial and sectoral cooperation such as the joint economic commission, joint working group on energy and joint defense cooperation. Conclusion of the social security agreement and migration and mobility partnership agreement would further facilitate the movement of skilled workers. I am confident that our business communities would seize this opportunity," Murmu said while addressing the India-Romania Business Forum Friday.
George further said that Romania was interested in India's human resource and that President Murmu discussed with the Romanian Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan the importance of Indians working in Romania.
"Both sides explored possibilities of Indian skilled professionals working in Romania due to increasing demand here. Accordingly, the two sides are working towards the finalization of the mobility partnership agreement for movement of skilled labour for mutual benefit. This was one of the important topics of detailed discussions during delegation-level talks with the Romanian Prime Minister. Romania is looking forward to more Indians coming to work in Romania from India," he added.
The two leaders also oversaw the signing of three MoUs between the two sides. These included an MoU on a program on cooperation on science and technology for 2026-2029 between Romania's national authority for research and India's department of science and technology which envisages implementation of joint project in the fields of natural sciences, engineering technology, medical and health sciences and agricultural sciences and an MoU on the establishment of an India chair or ICCR (Indian Council for Cultural relations) chair of Indian Studies at University of Bucharest to further strengthen academic cooperation and promote Indian language and culture. Further, another MoU has been signed between both sides on sports.
Secretary (west) further said that both countries are expanding collaboration in the defense sector especially in drone technology and aerospace sectors.
