Nithya Raman launches Griffith bike lane for safer LA streets
Raman announced that she is running for L.A.'s mayoral office to make the streets safer for everyone.

L.A. City council member Nithya Raman announced the start of construction of a bike lane in Griffith Park, after years of delays and postponements amid budget cuts.
The construction would mark the third stage of Raman's Griffith Park Safety & Active Transportation Improvement Project. Initially proposed in 2022, the three-stage plan featured the closure of Griffith Park Drive to personal vehicle traffic as phase 1 and the installation of movable radar speed feedback signs during phase 2.
The Project was first ideated as a reaction to the death of Andrew Jelmert, who was struck by a driver while biking in the park.

Announcing the bike lane's construction, Ramen said, "Great news for LA's cyclists. A bike-only lane on one of Griffith Park's main roads has finally broken ground."
However, she also acknowledged the delay in the project and said, "It took two years longer than it should have because at a time when traffic deaths are climbing, road safety budgets in the city keep getting cut."
Ramen also remarked that the repeated delays resulted in the contract being rebid multiple times and thereby making the project increasingly expensive.
Running for L.A.'s mayoral office, Raman announced that she is "running to make LA streets safer for everyone, no matter how you get around."
