Jenifer Rajkumar pays tribute to US soldier killed in Iranian attack
In her tribute, Rajkumar commemorated the fallen soldier’s sacrifice.

New York State Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar issued a statement July 21 honouring American hero Sergeant Angel Sarah Rampersad, who is believed to be the fourth US service member killed in recent Iranian attacks on American bases.
“Sgt. Angel S. Rampersad, 28, of Ozone Park, New York, is believed to have been killed in action on July 17, 2026, during an enemy attack at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, Jordan,” the Pentagon said in a statement. “The incident is under investigation. US Central Command previously announced this soldier as missing.”
In her tribute, Rajkumar commemorated the fallen soldier’s sacrifice.
“On July 17th, one of our own—a beloved daughter of Ozone Park—was killed in an Iranian missile strike while bravely serving our nation in the Middle East,” Rajkumar said. “Sgt. Rampersad answered America’s call with courage, selflessness, and an unwavering commitment to defending our nation and the freedoms we hold dear.”
Rajkumar added that Rampersad embodied the very best of the US Army and the country.
“She served far from home, stood in harm’s way, and carried out her duty with honour,” Rajkumar noted. “Her service and sacrifice will never be forgotten by Ozone Park, Queens, New York City, or a grateful nation.”
“We have a sacred obligation to honour those who wear our nation’s uniform and the families who serve and sacrifice alongside them.”
Rajkumar expressed her deep solidarity with Sgt. Rampersad’s family—particularly her parents, Basdeo and Carol—and all who are grieving this unimaginable loss. Both Rajkumar and Rampersad belong to New York’s vibrant Indo-Caribbean community, an ethnic group centred in Queens’ Richmond Hill and South Ozone Park neighbourhoods that traces its lineage from India through Caribbean nations like Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago. “As a member of the New York State Assembly Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, my commitment is to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who serve and stand with the families who bear that sacrifice alongside them,” Rajkumar said.
