Indian American lawmakers oppose Todd Blanche AG nomination

Democrats urge the Senate to reject the attorney general nominee after committee vote.

Indian American Democratic lawmakers condemned the Senate Judiciary Committee's decision to advance Todd Blanche's nomination for attorney general, urging senators to reject his confirmation on the Senate floor.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), a member of the House Judiciary Committee, on Aug 4 led the criticism after the committee voted to move Blanche's nomination forward.

"This vote from Senate Republicans on the Judiciary Committee is disrespectful to survivors across the country and the world and to the American people who are calling for real accountability from a Trump Justice Department," Jayapal said, alleging the department had failed to fully address abuses linked to Jeffrey Epstein.

Jayapal also accused Blanche of disrespecting Epstein survivors during a recent meeting and said some Republican senators had declined to meet with them.

"There is zero evidence that Blanche intends to stop serving as Trump's personal lawyer and will instead serve as the people's lawyer for real justice," she said, calling on Republican senators to vote against his confirmation.

Joining the criticism, Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (IL-08) said on X that Blanche "helped lead the Trump Administration's Epstein cover-up, blocked the release of documents Congress required to be made public, and acted like Donald Trump's lawyer–not the lawyer for the American people." He added that the Senate should reject the nomination.

Rep. Suhas Subramanyam (VA-10) also opposed the nomination, posting on X: "Todd Blanche should not be Attorney General."

The Republican-led Senate Judiciary Committee voted 12-10 along party lines on Aug. 4 to advance Blanche's nomination, clearing the way for a confirmation vote by the full Senate.

Blanche's nomination now heads to the full Senate, where lawmakers will vote on whether to confirm him as the nation's next attorney general.

The vote came after Republican Sens. John Cornyn of Texas and Thom Tillis of North Carolina agreed to support the nomination following written assurances from Blanche that the Justice Department would not move forward with a controversial $1.8 billion "anti-weaponization" fund that had drawn bipartisan scrutiny.

What credibility these Indian lawmakers that you mentioned in this article have? They are all clowns supporting wrong things. For example why would Ro Khanna vote consistently against lawmakers trading stocks and get wealthy? It is because he and his family is doing it to get rich.
