Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reiterated his government’s steadfast commitment to ensuring the safe return of Indian citizens back to the country during crises.

"When you leave the borders of India and go out into the world, then go with full confidence that the Indian government is standing with you,” the Minister said in an address during an event in Gujarat's Rajkot city on Apr.2.

Jaishankar cited recent instances of India's decisive action in facilitating the return of its citizens, through Operation Indravati in Haiti and Operation Ganga in Ukraine.

"If you see Ukraine, we people ran 90 flights at that time, some countries were running 4-5 flights, and many left their people there, saying if you are stuck, get out of there by yourself, we can't do much for you," Jaishankar highlighted.

Addressing concerns around India's bid for permanent membership in the UN Security Council, the Minister articulated the need for concerted efforts to realize this goal. He emphasized the need for India, along with other nations like Japan, Germany, and Egypt, to advocate for reforms within the UN framework to reflect the evolving geopolitical landscape.

Jaishankar's remarks underscored India's growing global stature, citing instances where India's developmental achievements and resilience have garnered international recognition. He highlighted India's role as a beacon of democracy and progress, particularly noting its economic resilience amid the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Furthermore, Jaishankar drew attention to India's contributions in the social sector, including initiatives like the Jal Jeevan Mission in Tanzania, which aims to provide access to clean water for rural communities. Such efforts not only reflect India's commitment to global development but also demonstrate its capacity to address pressing humanitarian challenges.

In his address, Jaishankar reaffirmed India's readiness to assume a greater role in addressing global challenges, leveraging its demographic dividend, technological prowess, and economic potential. He underscored the imperative for India to assert its leadership on the world stage, advocating for a more inclusive and equitable international order.
