Alabama labor federation endorses Hanu Karlapalem for Nov election
Karlapalem is among a select group of candidates statewide to secure the labor federation's endorsement in a contested race and stands as the only endorsed candidate in State House District 4.

Hanu Karlapalem, the Democratic nominee for Alabama State House District 4, has announced that he has earned the official endorsement of the Alabama American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) for the upcoming general election on Nov. 3.
Karlapalem is among a select group of candidates statewide to secure the labor federation's endorsement in a contested race and stands as the only endorsed candidate in State House District 4.
The endorsement follows Karlapalem's address to delegates at the Alabama AFL-CIO state convention in Montgomery on Aug. 3, where he advocated for working families. "For the supermajority swamp here in Montgomery, big-money donors come first and labor comes last," he told convention delegates.
"Gerrymandered districts and suppressed wages come from the same source," Karlapalem told the convention. "When working families lose their voice at the ballot box, they lose it at the bargaining table too."
Karlapalem emphasized the need for corporate transparency, specifically referencing taxpayer subsidies granted to AI data centers in Alabama. He criticized his opponent, Republican Parker Moore, for dismissing concerns regarding data center developments as "foreign disinformation."
"You're partners at the table, not political punching bags," Karlapalem said. "That means real transparency on the billions Alabama hands to corporations in subsidies, including the AI data centers. And it means solidarity — an injury to one is an injury to all. When our own neighbors raised concerns on data centers in my District 4, my opponent, Parker Moore, dismissed them as 'foreign disinformation.' I call that his AI — Arrogant Ignorance," he said.
The labor federation's backing adds to Karlapalem's growing list of endorsements, which also includes the Alabama Democratic County Party Chairs Association, 314 Action Fund and Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund. Karlapalem's campaign has emphasized contrasts with two-term incumbent Parker Moore, who has signed a pledge with Moms for Liberty.
In his campaign, Karlapalem has drawn sharp contrasts with incumbent Parker Moore. He highlighted "Moore's pledge with Moms for Liberty, receipt of more than $79,000 from special-interest PACs," and a lack of response to a proposal for three debates across Morgan, Limestone and Madison counties.
Karlapalem urges all eligible voters in Alabama State House District 4, Morgan, Limestone and Madison counties to register, organize and turn out for the Nov. 3 general election.
Karlapalem, a 26-year resident of Madison, small technology business owner and former second vice president of the Limestone County NAACP, is campaigning on an "An Alabama We Can Afford" platform centered on lowering costs, strengthening public schools and expanding health care access.
