AAHOA welcomes mandatory trafficking training for Pennsylvania hotels
The measure expands mandatory awareness training across Pennsylvania's lodging industry.

The Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA) on July 20 welcomed Pennsylvania's new human trafficking awareness training law for the hospitality industry.
AAHOA chairman Rahul Patel said the association was proud to support the legislation, noting that awareness and training are essential to helping hospitality employees recognize warning signs and respond appropriately.

"Every step we take to raise awareness helps protect vulnerable individuals and strengthen our communities," Patel said.
AAHOA president and CEO Laura Lee Blake said the hospitality industry plays an important role in combating human trafficking through education and awareness. She commended Gov. Josh Shapiro, state Rep. Regina Young, and the Pennsylvania General Assembly for advancing legislation that equips hospitality professionals to recognize and report suspected trafficking, adding that the association hopes more states will adopt similar measures.
AAHOA said it has long supported efforts to combat human trafficking through education, advocacy, and industry partnerships, providing hotel owners and employees with training and resources to help identify the signs of trafficking and respond safely and effectively.
The Pennsylvania Restaurant and Lodging Association also praised the law, calling it an important step toward strengthening anti-human trafficking efforts across the state's lodging industry.
The group said the measure reflects the hospitality industry's commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals and promoting responsible tourism.
House Bill 1286, sponsored by Young and signed into law by Shapiro, expands Pennsylvania's human trafficking awareness requirements to hotels, motels, short-term rentals, rental operators, third-party booking platforms, and certain contract workers.
Under the law, employees with guest contact or room access must complete state-approved human trafficking awareness training, with refresher courses required every two years. The legislation also requires short-term rental operators to complete the training and directs third-party booking platforms to verify operators' compliance.
