Sikh Youth Symposium held in Cincinnati, Dayton

Participants aged 6–22 presented speeches on Sikh teachings, with winners advancing to the May 16 regional round in Ohio-Pennsylvania.

Local-level events of the Sikh Youth Symposium 2026 were held in Cincinnati and Dayton, bringing together Sikh youth in a public speaking competition focused on Sikh teachings.

The programs were conducted at gurdwaras in Cincinnati and at the Sikh Society of Dayton under the aegis of the Sikh Youth Alliance of North America.

According to local convener Sameep Singh Gumtala, the symposium includes participants aged 6 to 22, divided into groups and assigned specific books and questions in advance.

For the 2026 edition, participants studied My Guru’s Blessings – Book 6, The Warrior Princess – Part 2, Teaching Sikh Heritage to the Youth, and The Message of Gurbani, and delivered 5–7 minute speeches based on Gurmat values and Sikh history.

Thirty participants took part in Cincinnati and 18 in Dayton. Both events opened with Ardas and Hukumnama, followed by individual presentations.

Volunteer Aasees Kaur said weekly workshops were held at local gurdwaras, where participants practiced public speaking and discussed assigned themes.

All participants were recognized with prizes and tokens of appreciation. Winners from local rounds in Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh will advance to the Ohio-Pennsylvania regional competition scheduled for May 16, at the Sikh Society of Dayton Gurdwara Sahib.

The Sikh Youth Symposium is an annual competition held across the United States and Canada, where participants aged 6 to 22 compete through prepared speeches and discussions, progressing from local to regional and international levels.
