Ontario premier joins BAPS Toronto temple's 20th anniversary
Doug Ford praised the mandir's charitable work and community outreach over two decades.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford joined celebrations marking the 20th anniversary of the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Etobicoke, Toronto, recognizing the temple's contributions to the Hindu community and its charitable outreach over the past two decades.
In a post on X, Ford said the mandir has spent 20 years "serving Toronto's Hindu community while promoting the values of charity by opening its doors to neighbours of all backgrounds across Etobicoke."

The premier said the temple's community initiatives have included food drives, support for people in need, and youth programs designed to equip young people with skills for the future. According to Ford, these efforts have made "a lasting impact" on the local community.
"It was a privilege to join the celebrations yesterday to mark this milestone," Ford wrote, referring to the anniversary event. His post did not provide further details about the program, guest speakers or the scale of the celebrations.
The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Sanstha temple in Toronto is part of a global Hindu spiritual organization known for combining religious activities with humanitarian and community service initiatives. BAPS operates mandirs across North America, including in Canada and the United States, and regularly organizes food distribution drives, disaster relief efforts, health initiatives and youth development programs.
The Etobicoke mandir has become one of the prominent Hindu places of worship in the Greater Toronto Area, serving a large and diverse Indian and Hindu community. Over the years, it has hosted religious festivals, cultural events and volunteer-driven community service programs while welcoming visitors from different backgrounds.
Ford has frequently engaged with Ontario's South Asian and Hindu communities during cultural and religious celebrations. Since becoming premier in 2018, he has attended several community events across the province recognizing the contributions of Indo-Canadians and other multicultural communities.
Ontario is home to one of Canada's largest Indian diaspora populations, with the Greater Toronto Area serving as a major hub for Indian cultural, religious and business organizations. Hindu temples such as the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir regularly partner with volunteers and community groups to organize charitable initiatives and public outreach programs.
