NYPD Desi Society hosts 17th annual awards dinner

The society recognized Captain Sachi G. Singh, the commanding officer of the 100th Precinct, as a “rising star.”

The NYPD Desi Society organized its 17th Annual Scholarship & Awards Dinner on April 16, at Northern Boulevard in New York.

The ticketed event was attended by serving NYPD officers from the Desi community and other members of New York’s Finest, along with community and political leaders and other supporters of their service.

The sold-out event featured an awards ceremony to honor the men and women in blue who showed exemplary service. Detective Didarul Islam and Captain Donny Ramoutar were honored posthumously for their service. Captain Ramoutar passed away in 2025 after prolonged 9/11-related health challenges.

The NYPD Desi Society also recognized Captain Sachi G. Singh, the commanding officer of the 100th Precinct, as a “rising star.”

Captain Ravi Singh was recognized as the commanding officer of the year, Lieutenant Commander Nidhin P. Abraham as supervisor of the year, and Detective Second Grade Harish Mansharamani was honored as the detective of the year.

Additionally, Officer Sharjeel Waris was awarded the NYPD Desi Society Finest Award.

The awards were also attended by representatives of the Sikh Officers Association. Talking about the event, the SOA said on social media, “The Sikh Officers Association had a wonderful time at the NYPD Desi Society’s Annual Scholarship and Awards Dinner.”

It added, “Kudos to the Desi Society for hosting such an outstanding event, and congratulations to all the award recipients.”

HAF’s executive director, Suhag A. Shukla, and director of philanthropy, Geetika Tandon, attended the event. HAF hailed the event for its impact and also thanked NYPD Desi Society President Neil Narayan.



Celebrating the event, HAF described it on X as a “truly memorable evening filled with celebration, culture, and community spirit” and thanked the organizers for “bringing together such an inspiring and meaningful event.”
