Indian American actress Mindy Kaling bagged the Artist of Distinction Award at the Newport Beach TV Fest in California during the opening night of the festival on June 4.
The TV Fest, organized under the aegis of the Newport Beach Film Festival, returned for its second year and was held from June 4-7.
Along with Kaling, the creator of the new hit TV comedy "Not Suitable for Work," Paul Anthony Kelly ("Love Story"), Owen Thiele ("Adults"), Thomas Doherty ("Paradise"), Sebastian Maniscalco ("It Ain't Right"), Seth MacFarlane ("Family Guy") and many others were recognized at the Newport Beach TV Fest.
In an official statement, the festival said, "Mindy Kaling will receive the Artist of Distinction Award in recognition of her work as creator, producer and writer of Netflix's 'Running Point,' as well as her work as the creator, producer and writer of the upcoming Hulu comedy, 'Not Suitable for Work.'"
Apart from receiving the award, Kaling also featured in a live podcast called "Awards Chatter" immediately after receiving the award. The podcast was moderated by Hollywood Reporter journalist Scott Feinberg.

Festival CEO Gregg Schwenk called her "one of the most talented voices working in television today" and praised her ability to create successful, critically acclaimed comedy series.
He continued, "With this newest season of 'Running Point,' she has again delivered one of Netflix's sharpest and funniest shows, a comedy that belongs squarely in the awards race. We are thrilled to open this year's TV Fest celebrating her extraordinary career alongside The Hollywood Reporter."
Known for creating acclaimed shows including "The Mindy Project," "Never Have I Ever" and "The Sex Lives of College Girls," Kaling has become one of the industry's most influential creative voices. As executive producer of Netflix's hit comedy "Running Point," Kaling continues to make her mark on television through fresh comedic voices and female-led series that resonate with audiences.
Kaling is an Indian American actress, writer, producer and bestselling author best known for her work on the TV show "The Office" and for creating series such as "Never Have I Ever."
She has been widely recognized for increasing South Asian representation in American entertainment through her work in television, film and publishing.
