“I think I love India far more than those commenting online,” Roy beamed in this exclusive interview with New India Abroad.

Born in rural Bengal, Anuparna Roy made headlines last week after becoming the first Indian to win the Best Director award in the Orizzonti section at the 82nd Venice Film Festival.

In her acceptance speech, she boldly extended support to Palestine on stage. Many on X seemed unhappy with her choice of words. “I might upset my country but it doesn’t matter to me anymore,“ she added, “Every child deserves peace, freedom, liberation and Palestinians are no exception.”
