Tennessee -based footwear retailer Genesco announced the retirement of its senior vice president and chief strategy and digital officer Parag D. Desai, effective Oct. 31.
The company said Desai's responsibilities will be transitioned to other members of its senior leadership team as part of a planned succession process.
Desai joined Genesco in 2014 as senior vice president of strategy and shared services before being promoted to senior vice president and chief strategy and digital officer in April 2021. During his tenure, he helped shape the company's long-term strategic direction and led several initiatives focused on digital transformation, technology modernization and data analytics.

According to Genesco, Desai played a key role in strengthening the company's technology platforms, expanding its data insights capabilities and establishing a next-generation technology operating model. The company also credited him with contributing to the execution of its "Footwear First" strategy, which emphasizes customer-focused retail experiences and omnichannel growth.
Desai reflected on his tenure by highlighting the collaborative efforts of Genesco's employees in strengthening the company's strategic foundation and building capabilities for the future. He expressed confidence in the leadership team and said the organization is well positioned to continue its momentum.
“It has been a privilege to work alongside the talented people of Genesco during a period of tremendous transformation. Together, we strengthened the Company's strategic foundation and built capabilities that position Genesco well for the future. I leave with deep confidence in the team, the strategy, and the opportunities ahead, and I look forward to watching Genesco continue building on this momentum,” Desai said in a statement.
Board chair, president and chief executive officer Mimi E. Vaughn praised Desai's leadership, describing him as a trusted adviser whose ability to align strategy with execution helped drive the company's transformation over the past decade.

His remarkable ability to connect strategy with execution and people across functional areas has helped shape Genesco’s evolution over the past decade. We are grateful for his outstanding leadership and commitment to ensuring a thoughtful transition,”Vaughn said.
Founded in 1924 Genesco operates more than 1,200 retail stores. Its portfolio includes retail brands such as Journeys, Little Burgundy, Schuh and Johnston & Murphy, while Genesco Brands Group markets licensed footwear brands including Wrangler, Dockers and Starter.
