Cloudera appoints Abhas Ricky as Chief Business Officer

Ricky has been recognized as a Global Shaper by the World Economic Forum and named among the ‘100 Visionaries under 30’ by Real Leaders Magazine.

Indian-American business leader Abhas Ricky has been promoted to the Chief Business Officer and GM of Applied AI by California-based Software Development company, Cloudera, the company announced on June 12.

Ricky, who joined Cloudera almost a decade ago, will now be responsible for Reinforcing the company’s commitment to driving enterprise AI adoption and helping customers convert AI investments into measurable business result, the company noted. 

Cloudera is a leading data and AI platform company that provides a hybrid, open data lakehouse solution enabling enterprises to manage, analyze, and run AI workloads on data anywhere — across public clouds, private data centers, and the edge.

Headquartered in Santa Clara, California, Cloudera empowers large organizations in industries like financial services, telecom, and healthcare to achieve real-time insights, strong governance, and measurable business outcomes from their data and AI initiatives.

Announcing his appointment, Cloudera said, "Congratulations to Abhas Ricky on his expanded role as Chief Business Officer and GM of Applied AI, where he’ll lead Cloudera’s dedicated Applied AI organization focused on helping strategic customers move from AI ambition to adoption to outcomes."

The company added, "With Applied AI Specialists, Forward Deployed Engineering, and AI Ecosystem Architects working alongside customers and partners, Cloudera is advancing practical paths to trusted, secure, governed AI at enterprise scale."

Ricky joined Cloudera in 2016 as its VP of Business & Cloud Transformation and Chief Strategy Officer. Before joining Cloudera, Ricky was a Member of Forbes' Technology Council. 

In a career spanning close to two decades, he has held multiple positions at brands including Punj Lloyd Limited, dunnhumby, A.T. Kearney and The Fourth Group, among many others and has worked around the world in countries including the United Kingdom, Malaysia and the United States.

Ricky holds a degree in General Management from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business and a degree in Electrical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology Surat, Gujrat, India.

He has been recognized as a Global Shaper by the World Economic Forum, named among the ‘100 Visionaries under 30’ by Real Leaders Magazine alongside Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai, and selected as a Founder of the Future under 35 by the Founders Forum. 

Ricky notes that he hopes to transform the lives of one million underprivileged children leveraging EdTech solutions to digitize and transform education platforms.
