Earth's ozone layer recovery is on track, says UN

The discovery of a hole in the ozone layer was first made public in May 1985.

A scientific assessment report published by the United Nations revealed that Earth's protective ozone layer is noticeably healing at a pace that would fully mend the hole over Antarctica in about 43 years.

The report published once in four years on the progress of the Montreal protocol confirmed the phase-out of nearly 9 percent of banned ozone-depleting substances.
