Diwali Foundation USA is organizing The Power One Awards - Oscars of Diplomacy at the Trusteeship Council Chamber, United Nations in New York, on December 5, 2022.
The award ceremony is co-organized by the Delegation of the European Union to the United Nations, the Permanent Missions of Chile Georgia, India, Kazakhstan, Kirbati, Morocco, Oman and Sri Lanka to the United Nations, and the Diwali Foundation USA, Inc, a news release said.
The foundation established the award to highlight work done in a peaceful manner, especially at the United Nations. “To be eligible for the award, one has to be a former Permanent Representative or former High-Level member of the UN Secretariat or member state,” the release added.
Olof Skoog, head of Delegation of the European Union to the United Nations will be the moderator of the ceremony. Ruchira Kambhoj, the Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, will be among the many speakers at the event.
Awardees includes Kaha Imnadze, Keisha M McGuire, Georgi Velikv Panayotov, Jean Claude do Rego, the former permanent representatives of Georgia, Grenada, Bulgaria and Benin to the UN respectively.
Eliot Lance Engel, former chairman, Foreign Affairs Committee of the United States House of Representatives will also be receiving an award at the ceremony.
Established in 2017, the Diwali Foundation USA Inc works to promote a peaceful and consensus-based process to achieve societal 'good,' as befits the high hopes and ideals of humanity enshrined in the United Nations Charter. Ranju Batra, the woman behind USA’s first Diwali Stamp, serves as the foundation’s chair.
