Deoghar peda goes global, eyes GI tag

The mouth watering sweets made of milk and jaggery have gone global with the first international consignment shipped out of Deoghar

The very name Deoghar conjures up the image of an imposing temple of Lord Shiva, the serpent God of the Hindus, and hundreds of kiosks dotting its surroundings selling tasty “peda”, a special milk-based sweet that has become synonymous with the pilgrim town in Jharkhand district in eastern India.

The temple, also known as Baba Baidyanath Dham (an abode of the Lord), is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas - the most sacred abodes of Shiva, worshipped by millions of devotees.
