Lavishing praise on District Judge nominee, Arun Subramanian, as a first rate legal mind, the epitome of the American Dream and a history maker, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer maintained that courts need more people like Subramanian. Senator Schumer was speaking on the floor of the Senate ahead of a vote to confirm Arun Subramanian as a U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of New York.
“ Mr. Subramanian’s resume tells a very clear story: he is excellent, he is accomplished, he’s dedicated his entire career fighting for average Americans. He served as a law clerk to Judge Dennis Jacobs on the Second Circuit, Judge Gerard Lynch in the Southern District of New York, and the late, great, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. He’s an expert in consumer protection with years of experience defending those injured by unfair, illegal practices. He’s also defended victims of child trafficking in pornography. Our courts need more people like Arun Subramanian”, the Senator from New York said.
Senator Schumer pointed out that once the Senate voted to confirm Subramanian, the Democratic Majority in the chamber would have confirmed 114 judges to the bench—30 for Circuit Courts, 83 District Courts and one Supreme Court Justice, Ketanji Brown Jackson. Upon confirmation Subramanian will be the first South Asian Judge to the Southern District of New York.
“Because of the work done by this majority, our federal judiciary is far more balanced, far more diverse, far more experienced than the one we had just two years ago. And it’s something every American can be proud of”, Schumer said in a press note.
