Canada welcomed 431,645 new permanent residents in 2022, the highest number ever recorded for a single year in the history of the nation. According to a statement released by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Canada previously accepted a record number of immigrants in 1913, before breaking that record in 2021.
Commenting on the new high, Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship said, "Today marks an important milestone for Canada, setting a new record for newcomers welcomed in a single year. It is a testament to the strength and resilience of our country and its people."
