Canada-based firm to power India’s first hydrogen trains

In an attempt to achieve their net zero ambitions, the Indian Railways has decided to develop hydrogen powered trains.

Canada-based clean energy firm, Ballard Power Systems announced that it has received a fuel cell module order from Medha Servo Drives, an Indian rail system integrator, that has been contracted by the Indian Railways to develop India’s first hydrogen powered trains.

“The fuel cell modules are expected to be shipped in 2023, with trains scheduled to go into service in 2024, with potential for additional retrofits following the initial deployment,” a statement from Ballard said.
