Brampton Malayalee diaspora organize Kerala’s iconic boat race in Canada

Organised on a scale similar to the one in Kerala, the Brampton boat race has become the biggest competition in the world of expatriate Malayalees.

The Brampton Malayalee Samajam (BMS) recently hosted the 12th edition of the Brampton Boat Race at the Professors Lake in Brampton. The event is the Expatriate version of the grand Nehru Trophy boat race that takes place in Alappuzha, Kerala every year during August.

Dignitaries who attended the event included Consul General of India in Toronto, Apoorva Srivastava, Mayor of Brampton, Patrick Brown, Canadian members of provincial parliament, Kamal Khera, Prabmeet Sarkaria and Amarjot Sandhu. The mayor along with the Parliamentarians and local police were part of teams that raced during the event.
