Indian-origin Basant Gupta was recently nominated as planning board member in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, USA. The board members are responsible for evaluating and rendering decisions on applications for development such as site plans, subdivisions and variances.
Solicitor of the board, John Ridgeway administered the oath of the Planning Board to Basant Gupta. His wife Chitra Gupta was also present on the occasion. Accepting the responsibility, Gupta promised to consider old and new projects for the development of New Jersey city, that were brought up for discussion and approval.
A successful entrepreneur and philanthropist, Gupta serves as chairman of the South Jersey Indian Association in America, founding member of Ahimsa Vishwa Bharti Foundation, Hindu Jain Mandir Pomona New Jersey and member of the Cultural and Heritage Committee on the Atlantic County Advisory Board. Along with being a trustee, has also been the former president of Lions Club International of Kanpur.
Lauding Gupta's nomination to the board, Acharya Dr. Lokesh Muniji, founder of Ahimsa Vishwa Bharti Foundation, said that Basant Gupta is always engaged in social welfare and development works. "It is a matter of pride for the country of India that the people of our community are hoisting the country's flag with unprecedented works even in the city of a huge country like America," he added appreciating the achievements of the Indian community in U.S.
