Ayodhya glitters with earthen lamps: Guinness record bettered

Pilgrims and visitors had a lifetime experience when they saw the banks of the Saryu come alive with colourful lights and earthen lamps, a result of untiring efforts of thousands of volunteers

History was unfolded before the eyes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath among other dignitaries on the eve of Diwali when 15.76 lakh earthen lamps were lit along the bank of river Saryu to mark the festival of lights.

Hundreds of volunteers turned up at Ram ki Paidi in Ayodhya — which is also Ram’s birthplace — to light the record number of lamps, bettering the previous best figure.
