American Girl launches first Indian American doll Kavi Sharma

Every year the firm launches a doll from a wide range of backgrounds, as part of the Girl of the Year collection, to reflect what it means to be an American girl today

US-based doll maker, American Girl unveiled its 2023 Girl of the Year doll on Dec. 29, as  Kavi Sharma, an Indian American girl who lives with her family in New Jersey, an area known to have a large presence of Indian Americans.

Short for Kavika, Kavi is a practicing Hindu, who loves Broadway shows and has a strong passion for performing on stage. Her story will be released in a book, titled, It’s Showtime, Kavi, written by New York Times bestselling author Varsha Bajaj (Thirst and Count Me In). The illustrated paperback journal and a hardcover novel, will be released in 2023.
