The Ambassador of India to the United States, Taranjit Singh Sandhu visited Duke University in Washington DC on April 21, 2023, as part of the Duke India Initiative. Sandhu was accompanied by the Head of Commerce at the Embassy of India, Suja Menon on his visit.
During his visit, the Ambassador met with university leaders, interacted with students and faculty and explored potential partnerships with president Vincent Price, a University news release informed.
Sandhu addressed the gathering on the diversity of India-U.S. relations and emphasized on the importance of education and knowledge partnerships between the two countries. He encouraged Indian students to explore opportunities in India after completing their education in the United States.
Appreciating the Indian Ambassador’s visit to Duke University, associate vice provost for Global Affairs, Eve Duffy said, “Coming out of the pandemic we see many opportunities to build key collaborations with institutions of higher education across the globe, and especially in India, to address the world’s most pressing challenges, such as climate change and health.”
After the visit, Sandhu tweeted, “Interacted with healthcare innovators from India, U.S., UK Latin America, Caribbean and Africa in Washington DC Duke University forum.India’s vision of healthcare is holistic, affordable, accessible & universal as expounded by PM Narendra Modi .”
South East Asian students on campus raised diverse queries on various subjects including the agricultural sector in India, work permits in the United States and the U.S.-India alignment on global leadership and the ambassador’s career trajectory, during their interaction with Sandhu, the release added.
