Air India launched its first-ever non-stop flight service to Gatwick Airport in London from Amritsar. Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Jyotiraditya Scindia inaugurated the direct flight service to the second-largest airport in the UK on March 27, 2023.
In his inaugural address, the Minister said, “This new international connectivity will work as a catalyst for the development of the region. It is an emotional subject also as lakhs of people of Punjab live in the UK and this new service will connect families living in two different countries.”
The Minister added, “This is the third connectivity between Amritsar and England and there are six international flights which are operational from Amritsar.”
He lauded PM Modi’s efforts in the development of Amritsar Airport. In his address, he recalled, “By 2014 Amritsar was connected to only six cities, in nine years under the leadership of PM Modi, it has increased to twenty-one cities, a jump of 250 per cent.”
In the government’s initiatives to strengthen flight services, he informed “The government has signed an open sky offer with Canada wherein airline operators can operate unlimited flights between Indian cities and their Canadian counterparts.”
As per the released schedule, the inaugurated Amritsar to Gatwick Airport flight will operate three days a week.
