Brazilian Football legend Pele passed away at the age of 82, his daughter shared the news on Instagram. The Brazilian has won the World Cup thrice (1958, 1962 and 1970) in his career and has scored a record 1,281 goals.
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has declared a seven-day mourning to remember the life and achievements of Pele. He passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2022 after a long battle with Cancer.

“We are deeply saddened by the demise of footballing great Pele, and to remember his achievements, we will observe a seven-day mourning. In this period, the AIFF flag will fly at half-mast,” said AIFF secretary general Shaji Prabhakaran.

The AIFF statement noted that the country's connection with Pele runs deep, as the striker visited the subcontinent more than once. The first was the famous visit in 1977 when Cosmos played out a 2-2 draw against Mohun Bagan at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata (then Calcutta), the news release noted.
