Second-generation Indian-American hotelier Bharat Patel was named the new chairman of Asian American Hotel Owners Association’s (AAHOA) Board of Directors at the 2023 AAHOA Convention & Trade Show in Los Angeles, California.
Florida-based Patel, who has been an active member of the hotelier’s group since 2008, served as an ambassador for several years before his election to the Board of Directors as the regional director for Florida in 2015.
Reacting to the election to head the association, he said, “I am honoured to serve America’s hotel owners as the newest AAHOA Chairman.” Stating his priorities for the group, he said his focus is on strategic planning, and laying the path for the future of the association. He added, “We will continue to create educational and networking opportunities for the next generation, create new revenue streams for AAHOA, new sponsorship opportunities, and focus on how AAHOA can provide more value for our members and loyal industry partners for years to come.”
University of Florida graduate and partner at Gulf Coast Hospitality, Patel gained hospitality business skills and experience at properties owned by his parents. He served on the boards and councils linked to the hospitality sector including the Sarasota County Tourism Development Council, and the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Advisory Board.
Congratulating Patel on the new role, AAHOA president & CEO Laura Lee Blake said, “Working alongside you as Vice Chairman over the past year has been a pleasure, and I am looking forward to all that you will accomplish in the year ahead.”
