The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is racing against the time to issue 280,000 green cards before the fiscal year closes on Sep. 30, 2022.
However, as of mid-June 2022, USCIS and the US Department of State (DOS) had used significantly more visas than at the same point in FY 2021. This is despite the fact that closures and restricted operations at US embassies and consular offices throughout the pandemic led to a high number of employment-based green cards being available.
